City of San Leandro <br />Civic Center, 835 E. 14th Street <br />San Leandro, California 94577 <br />Office of the Mayor 510-577-3356 <br />FAX 510-577-3340 <br />September 12, 2008 <br />Mr. Trevor Henry, General Engineer <br />Federal Aviation Administration <br />Orville Wright Building (FOB l0A) <br />800 Independence Avenue <br />Washington, D.C. 20591 <br />Re: Oakland International Airport Runway 27L ILS Project <br />Dear Mr. Henry: <br />On July 24, 2008, Ms. Deborah Ale Flint, Assistant Director of Aviation for the Oakland <br />International Airport (OAK), wrote to you asking for an explanation as to why the FAA is no <br />longer pursuing installation of an Instrument Landing System (ILS) on OAK's runway 27L. <br />The addition of an ILS on 27L would be an important benefit to San Leandro in that it would <br />allow for implementation of a noise abatement procedure which would provide significant relief <br />for our residential community from nighttime aircraft noise. Consequently, the City of San <br />Leandro is eager to know why the FAA has shelved this project and whether or not there is any <br />possibility for the project to move forward in the future. <br />I would appreciate a reply to this matter as soon as possible.
