MINUTES Page 5 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-November 3, 2008 <br />Council. Mayor Santos reported that the Waste Management Authority Board members <br />received an Eco Metro Guide, which contains coupons for a variety of green products. <br />B. Reports on Conferences and Seminars <br />Councilmember Starosciak reported on the Association of Bay Area Governments <br />(ABAG) Fall General Assembly in Oakland. The session covered Delta water resources <br />and land use policy. <br />Councilmember Gregory thanked Councilmember Starosciak for attending the ABAG <br />meeting on his and Councilmember Grant's behalf. He commented on the need to pay <br />close attention to SB 375. <br />C. Reports on Empowerment Funds <br />Councilmember Souza. reported that she made the following contributions from her <br />Community Empowerment Funds: $300 to Building Futures with Women and Children <br />for the April Showers Program, $200 to the Keep Music Rockin' Foundation, and $500 <br />to the Senior Services Foundation. <br />D. Reports on City Council Committees <br />1. City and San Leandro Unified School District Liaison Committee Meeting of <br />October 16, 2008. Accepted as submitted. <br />Councilmember Prola stated that, if possible, he would like the City to honor its <br />intended commitment to the School District for its Ninth Grade Campus. Mr. <br />Hollister indicated that he would be meeting with Superintendent Lim, and will <br />report on the outcome of the meeting to the City Council. <br />Councilmember Souza thanked Mr. Hollister for proceeding carefully in this <br />matter. She commented that while it is important to work with the School <br />Districts, the City must avoid overextending itself. She stated that she was <br />encouraged to hear the news about the four-year extension for the High School <br />pool and the formation of the San Leandro Sports Foundation. <br />Mayor Santos commented on the loss of redevelopment tax increment funds due <br />to State takeaways, and the impact this loss would have on the City's ability to <br />contribute to the Ninth Grade Academy Gymnasium. <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Grant commented that she attended the BRIDGE affordable housing tour; the <br />Oakland Black Chamber of Commerce luncheon; and the Kaiser community outreach <br />meeting, as a member of the public. She requested that tonight's meeting be adjourned in <br />memory of Luster Knight. <br />
