Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority
Special Transportation for Seniors and People with Disabilities
1. PROGRAM SERVICE AREA -Residents using this program are able to meet life needs,
including but not limited to major medical facilities, full service grocery stores and other
basic necessities if ADA services, or coordination between base programs are unable to
provide these trips.
The San Leandro Paratransit Service operates within the City limits. Trips for out of town
medical trips are currently provided through MSL funds. San Leandro has a wide range of
services and amenities that allows residents to meet the majority of critical life needs within
the City limits, with the exception of medical care. Forty percent of San Leandro residents
are Kaiser members and access to Kaiser facilities is critical. Many residents also use Eden
Medical Center in Castro Valley and a variety of other medical services outside the City
limits.
2. INTERIM SERVICE FOR INDIVIDUALS APPLYING FOR OR AWAITING ADA
CERTIFICATION
Interim service provided within three business days upon receipt of application
Interim service provided at the request of a health care or ADA provider.
We currently provide Interim Service. The majority of the Interim Service trips are for
medical trips outside the city limits and are funded with the MSL Out-of--Town Medical
Transportation grant. If we do not receive the MSL grant for Out-of--Town Medical
transportation, we will not be able to meet the Interim Service need for medical trips out of
town.
Describe how services will be coordinated with other Measure B paratransit services and/or
mandated ADA paratransit services so that trips can be made throughout Alameda County.
Examples of coordination may include (but are not limited to) reciprocal fare agreements,
reciprocal agreements to provide trips into adjoining areas, arrangements for clients to ride
on other systems, and transfer arrangements. Attach copies of agreements or memoranda of
understanding for coordination.
Response-
FLEX coordinates with other area transit services in the following ways:
o FLEX Shuttle has stops at AC Tansit and BART providing access to regional
transportation.
o San Leandro uses the universal paratransit application developed through TAC.
o We work closely with the City of Hayward, our Central County neighbor, most
recently piloting the Hayward-San Leandro Shuttle Connection. This new service
allows clients to transfer to the neighboring city's paratransit service. (Note: This
service is being implemented based on a verbal agreement with the City of
Hayward.)
C:\DOCUments and Settingsllanyers\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.0utlook\OE51NYN2\MB Annual Program
Application Cover FY0910.doc
