Hollister
City Manager
Weep
RESOLUTION OF INTENTION CALLING FOR A PUBLIC HEARING TO AMEND THE
EXISTING UNDERGROUND DISTRICT ON EAST 14TH STREET FROM 150TH AVENUE
TO LILLIAN AVENUE TO INCLUDE THE SEGMENT FROM LILLIAN AVENUE TO
THORNTON STREET/MAUD AVENUE, AND SETTING THE DATE FOR A PUBLIC
HEARING ON MAY 18, 2009.
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
A public hearing by the City Council is required prior to establishment of an Underground Utility
District, or inclusion of additional properties within an existing district. This resolution will
initiate the public hearing process to amend the existing district on East 14th Street to include the
segment from Lillian Avenue to Thornton Street/Maud Avenue.
Staff recommends approval of a resolution of intention calling for a public hearing to amend the
existing Underground Utility District on East 14th Street from 150th Avenue to Lillian Avenue to
include the segment of East 14th Street from Lillian Avenue to Thornton Street/Maud Avenue.
BACKGROUND
The Underground Utility District Master Plan provides a systematic approach to converting
overhead utility systems to underground systems along the City's major arterial streets. Streets
that are included in the master plan are prioritized by adoption of a five-year list and then
included in an underground district.
When an underground district is formed, funding is appropriated then the work is designed. Each
utility owner is responsible for the design of its own facilities. A composite plan is created that
includes all the underground conduit required for all the facilities and the work is put out to bid.
