A discussion ensued. <br />City Manager Hollister inquired on student enrollment. Superintendent Byas stated that <br />attendance is up and the District will change class size to 24.5 students to one teacher, <br />which seems to accommodate the community without turning students away. <br />Councilmember Souza hopes that more teachers would participate in the School Loop <br />Program, which allows parents computer access to track their child's progress. A <br />discussion ensued regarding the School Loop Program and Block Scheduling, which is <br />in the District's second phase at this time. <br />Councilmember Prola commented that the reason for the increase in District attendance <br />may be because families for struggling to get through these tough economic times and <br />are unable to attend private schools. District staff agreed. <br />4. Discussion Re ag rdin~ Solid Waste Services at Schools <br />Interim Assistant City Manager Diaz commented that Oro Loma Sanitary District is not <br />offering composting service at this time. <br />A discussion ensued regarding the City's Water Pollution Control Plant's co-generation <br />facility. <br />Councilmember Souza reminded all of the upcoming May 16 Neighborhood Cleanup <br />Day, in which all San Leandro residents can recycle unwanted items. <br />5. Committee Member Comments <br />Board Member Polvorosa commented on how what a pleasure it is doing business with <br />the City. <br />Superintendent Byas announced that this is the last City/Distict Liaison Committee <br />Meeting for the District's Associate Superintendent Maniscalco, who is retiring soon. <br />He continued to applaud Maniscalco professionalism. <br />Councilmember Prola stated that he looks forward to more joint use projects with the <br />District in the future. <br />Superintendent Byas commented that these hard economic times will make everyone <br />more creative in the challenges ahead. <br />
