Minutes -City of San Leandro City Council and Page 4 <br />San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting - Mxrch 15, 1999 <br />C. City Council Comments <br />1. Council Member Grant reported on the Ad Hoc Millennium Committee <br />meeting which was held last week. She indicated their plan will be shared <br />formally with the Council at a later date. They are planning a "Millennium <br />Week," which will. consist of a series of events, including cultural diversity and <br />educational events, culminating with information coming from the General Plan <br />Process. They also plan to include a Time Capsule, perhaps to be housed at <br />the newly renovated Library. <br />2. Council Member Nardine reported on the positive meetings which took place <br />at their National League of Cities Conference in Washington, D.C., last week. <br />She referenced a recent letter from Supervisor Wilma Chan, regarding her <br />proposed boycott against General Foods. She indicated there had been a <br />change of heart; Supervisor Chan indicated to them she has misgivings about <br />the suggestions she made, and a majority of the Board of Supervisors do not <br />support the boycott. <br />3. Council Member Loeffler reported on the Durant Square Project and its <br />proposed rezoning by the City of Oakland. He noted residents of San Leandro <br />and Oakland have expressed concerns with its proposed high density and asked <br />that Council Members stay apprised of the progress of this issue. <br />Council Member Loeffler commented on his suggestion that the Council revisit <br />the Living-Wage topic. He stated that surrounding cities are wrestling with the <br />same topic and suggested there is a need to begin public conversation about <br />this issue. <br />4. Council Member Lothrop commented on discussion which took place in <br />Washington, D.C., with the Environmental Protection Agency, noting airports <br />were reported as an uncontrolled source of air pollution. She urged the public <br />to write to the EPA and expressed their concerns as well. <br />Council Member Lothrop clarified with the Mayor the process with regard to <br />responding to public comments made earlier this evening that were not <br />accurate. <br />The City Attorney indicated any Council Member has the opportunity to ask <br />that comments be addressed after the comments have been made and/or during <br />Council Comments. <br />5. Council Member Glaze indicated that this Council spends a considerable <br />amount of time lobbying legislators with regard to San Leandro's interests <br />about airport noise.
