Nrnutes -City of San Leandro City Council and Page 9 <br />San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting -- May 17,1999 <br />Mayor Young indicated the Resolution passed by the City of Oakland does not <br />stop the proposed study of truck traffic on I-580; the State Assembly will be <br />making that decision; but, it appeazs the study will not be funded. It was <br />pointed out that it is not a dead issue yet. <br />Council Member Loeffler continued by recommending Tony Nassimento be <br />honored for 50 yeazs of working with young people in the San Leandro <br />community. He feels it would be appropriate to name the ball field at Thrasher <br />Park in his honor while he can enjoy it. Council Member Loeffier requested <br />this matter be referred to the City Council Rules and Communications <br />Committee for consideration. <br />The following Motion was then introduced: <br />-- Minute Order No. 99-30, Matter of Facilities Committee Agenda <br />Items. (1156) <br />The City Council referred the matter of naming the Thrasher Park <br />ball field in honor of Tony Nasimento to the Rules and <br />Communications Committee for review and recommendation. <br />M/S/C Loeffler and Galvan. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 <br />Council Member Loeiller further expressed concerns with the enforcement of <br />community standazds in San Leandro. He noted many Council Members get <br />calls at various times regazding matters concerning community standazds <br />violations. He questioned if there is a need to have a full report back to the <br />City Council on issues staff is dealing with and possible proactive steps the <br />City can take. <br />Council Member Loeffier concluded by commenting on the weekend's events, <br />which included the Open Studio at the Plaza, the Art Reach Event, and the <br />Open Homes event. He further noted that he represented the City at the <br />UPEC Reception. He continued by referencing a report of the League of <br />California Cities, which shows our deferred maintenance backlog of $4.5 <br />million dollars for street paving. He questioned if Sacramento has $4 billion in <br />surplus, what part of that is San Leandro going after? <br />5. Council Member Lothrop commented on Mulford Garden Pazk and indicated <br />staff and residents, as well as a couple of Recreation and Pazks Cornmissioners, <br />should get together to discuss what is going on there. She announced an <br />upcoming Safety Meeting in District 6 to be held on Tune 15, 1999, at Garfield <br />School. <br />
