Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 8 - <br />San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Meeting - January 20, 1998 <br />The following Motion was then introduced: <br />Minute Order No. 98-7, Resolution Approving a Joint Powers Agreement <br />with Participating Bay Area Cities for a Saturday Night Special Legal <br />Defense Fund (provides for a legal defense fund to defend against <br />potential lawsuits as a result of local ordinances banning Saturday <br />Night Specials and $5,000 from each of the participating cities -- <br />Alameda, Berkeley, E1 Cerrito, Emeryville, Oakland, Pinole, Pleasanton, <br />Richmond, San Pablo, and San Leandro). (2603J1413) <br />The City Council continued the matter of a Joint Powers Agreement with <br />Participating Bay Area Cities for a Saturday Night Special Legal Defense <br />Fund for 30 days. <br />M/S/C Loeffler and Galvan. Ayes: 5; Noes: Galvan and Glaze <br />E. Report on Closed Session Actions Taken. <br />The City Attorney stated that the Council met in Closed Session to <br />consider the settlement of a condemnation case involving Pacific Gas and <br />Electric street lights. The City initiated this action some time ago to <br />acquire the street lights owned by Pacific Gas and Electric Company. <br />The matter has now been approved for settlement and dismissal of the <br />action. The City Council has unanimously approved the settlement. The <br />City will be paying X637,200.00 for the acquisition of all street lights <br />in the City of San Leandro currently owned by Pacific Gas and Electric <br />Company. <br />7. OPEN FORUM <br />Open Forum is limited to 3 minutes maximum per speaker, 15 minutes total. <br />A. Carey Walker, 471 Santa Monica, addressed the Council regarding whether <br />or not State laws would supersede City laws regarding gun control? The <br />City Attorney responded that the State laws would not supersede City law <br />with respect to this issue. <br />B. Susan Steiny, Representing Steiny & Company, Inc., publicly stated that <br />Steiny will formally protest this bid and seek damages from the City of <br />San Leandro for the loss and return of the $25,000 bid bond and <br />reimbursement of all loss of profits. <br />C. Al Rosenga, addressed the Council regarding concerns with decisions that <br />are being made that affect District 6. <br />D. Louie Heystek, 241 Marina Boulevard, addressed the Council and thanked <br />Vice Mayor Loeffler for attending and joining in the Youth Rally <br />celebrating Martin Luther King's Birthday recently held in Oakland. <br />
