Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 8 - <br />San Leandro Economic Development Agency Joint Meeting - April 6, 1998 <br />c. Lamar Heystek, Treasurer of Young San Leandrans (PAC), addressed the <br />Council, stating he has a twin brother, Louis, who is the Chair of the <br />YAC. He further stated that the Young San Leandrans are not sanctioned <br />by the San Leandro School District or by the City. If there are any <br />questions regarding the Youth Vote, those should be directed to his <br />brother, Louis. <br />8. CITY COUNCIL REPORTS AND COMMENTS <br />A. Reports on Intergovernmental Agencies <br />1. Council Member Galvan commented that EDAB and LAVMWA have completed <br />their negotiations, and an agreement has been reached. He would like <br />to see a Work Session scheduled as soon as possible to talk about how <br />the City might use the monies resulting from the settlement of the <br />agreement. <br />B. Reports on City Council Committees <br />1. Council Member Loeffler reported on the recent Facilities Committee <br />Meeting, noting discussion included the need to build two, new fire <br />stations versus retrofitting, as well as the issue of the library and <br />the next steps that should be taken. It was noted that modifications <br />to the original expectations may need to be considered. Intersection <br />improvements to various areas were also discussed, which the <br />Committee was supportive of, and a full report will be coming back to <br />the Council with recommendations. <br />Council Member Glaze added that the Fire Stations are a priority and <br />that public safety comes before the library retrofit issue. He <br />commented that the Fire Chief is looking at response times City-wide, <br />as they relate to the moving of any fire station locations. <br />C. City Council Comments <br />1. Council Member Galvan wished a speedy recovery to Ed Shapiro, who <br />recently underwent heart surgery. He also commended Kenton Jang and <br />Louis Heystek on the success of the Youth Summit. He continued by <br />commending Lamar Heystek for his participation in getting the youth <br />of San Leandro involved in the election process, as he feels there <br />has been a disconnect with youth and involvement in government. <br />2. Council Member Young commended Candice Yip for the design of the <br />Youth Summit T-shirt and congratulated Linda Granger on receiving the <br />leacher of the Year Award from the National Foundation for Teaching <br />Entrepreneurship. <br />Council Member Young also commended Pat Hearst, local golfer, for <br />having won the Dinah Shore Ladies' Masters. <br />
