Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 9 - <br />San Leandro Economic Development Agency Joint Meeting - April 6, 1998 <br />Council Member Young also reported on the Scholarship Foundation <br />Dinner held last week and noted the San Leandro High School talent <br />that was present and added that there was an orchestra and singers <br />who performed. She, too, looks forward to youth participation on the <br />Arts Council. <br />In conclusion, Council Member Young verified with the City Attorney <br />that the deed restriction issue out at the Marina will not be brought <br />back to the Council unless a problem is identified. <br />3. Council Member Polvorosa commended the YAC for their successful <br />Summit; he added that the community should take note of the concerns <br />of youth, and they should be made public. <br />Council Member Polvorosa further reported on the Floresta Little <br />League Opening Day Ceremonies and added that he was appalled at the <br />condition of the park fields. He stated something needs to be done. <br />Council Member Polvorosa concluded by requesting the Council adjourn <br />tonight's meeting in memory of Bob Brooks. <br />4. Council Member Glaze commented on the gas additives comments that <br />were presented to Council some time ago and added that these <br />additives eat away at rubber hoses and gaskets, which pose potential <br />problems with lawn mowers when they are stored in garages near gas <br />water heaters. He suggested staff look into this matter. <br />Council Member Glaze further reported on the Washington Manor <br />Homeowners' Annual Easter Egg Hunt coming up this Saturday. <br />In conclusion, referencing the Board of Zoning Adjustments, which has <br />final authority in some matters, Council Member Glaze asked if the <br />BZA couldn't be given additional authority to deal with some <br />community appeals and such. <br />5. Vice Mayor Loeffler commented on the recent Art Reach Event for the <br />San Leandro Women's Shelter and commended the establishments, Dean's <br />Beans and Paradiso, which hosted the event. He questioned how the <br />City supports the Arts in San Leandro and referenced a presentation <br />he had seen from the City of Pasadena, noting that they utilize 1% of <br />their General Funds to subsidize and support public art. <br />Vice Mayor Loeffler also commended the Washington Manor Baseball <br />League for their recent event and thanked the Auto Club for vehicles <br />that were used. <br />Vice Mayor Loeffler reported that he attended the ribbon cutting for <br />the Out-Patient Services of San Leandro Hospital and attended the <br />Youth Surmnit, also. He elaborated on how proud he is of the YAC and <br />their involvement in community issues. He also reported that he <br />attended the Paramedic Graduation Ceremonies on April 3. <br />
