Minutes -City of San Leandro City Council, San Leandro Economic Page 6
Development Agency, and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting
November 2,1998
overbearing presence. She also acknowledged the ham radio operators that
were there. She concluded by noting perhaps San Leandro could be
designated as a City that teaches and respects tolerance and perhaps have an
annual event celebrating that.
2. Council Member Nazdine requested that the City Manager report on his
response to a letter received by the Marina Seagate Homeowners' Association.
Council Member Lothrop noted that she and Council Member Glaze met with
members of Seagate recently and clarified that the City Manager will be
reporting on that issue later in the evening, during New Business, regarding
Enterprise Funds.
3. Council Member Glaze commented on the flood-control channels and their
lack of maintenance. He voiced concern with the amount of money that is
being expended to the Flood Control Districts for the maintenance of those
channels and the lack of maintenance that is actually being done. He suggested
the City Manager request an accounting of the monies being paid and what
they're being spent on. If the monies are not accounted for, he would like to
see the Council consider withdrawing from those Flood Control Districts.
4. Council Member Loeffler reported on the new venture San Leandro has
embarked upon with the City of Oakland regazding a new Precinct
Station/Police Resource Center. He noted they have a local business that is
donating space for a pocket precinct in the MacArthur Boulevard area.
Council Member Loeffler also remarked on how he would like to see the
Council look into having a discussion regarding a Senior Citizen Advisory
Commission. It was suggested that perhaps this topic should go before the
City Council Rules and Communications Committee.
Council Member Loeffler concluded by reporting on his attendance at the
recent Golf Course Ribbon-Cutting event, noting he was impressed by the
Mayor's swing as she hit the first ball.
5. Council Member Lothrop noted she will be having a community meeting on
December 10, 1998, at Garfield School. She also noted there is a West San
Leandro Advisory Committee, which meets on a monthly basis, and
encouraged Mr. Perez to attend and voice his concerns regarding pedestrian
crossings.
6. Mayor Young reported on her attendance of the Tony Lema Golf Course
Opening of the double-deck driving range. She noted she was honored to hit
the first ball.
