Council Member Loeffler indicated his concerns with what appears to be a pattern of corporate gas stations that, in his view, are discriminating against handicapped individuals. The Hearing was then opened to the public. Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne Drive, addressed the Council regarding the driveway issues. He stated the owners of the property should make the decision as to whether the driveways should be closed or not. In his opinion, things should be left as is for now. Sheila Cook, 15035 East 14`~ Street, representing Columbia Health Care Pavilion, explained the reasons for wanting the access gate closed. Their concern is for their patients, as there is a lot of traffic that cuts through that area, creating a hazard for people coming and going to the hospital. Ayes: 5; Noes: 0; Absent: Galvan and Lothrop Council discussion ensued regarding the Traffic Engineer's review of street access and ingress and egress as they relate to the driveways being close to the intersection. An increase in hours of operation; i.e., a request to become a 24-hour establishment, was also discussed. It was suggested that, if such a request was made, it should come back to the Council for review. Mayor Young noted she would like to see an added Condition, indicating that, if there was a request to increase hours of operation to 24 hours, it be required to be brought back to the Council.
