Hollister, City Manager <br />FROM: Uche Udemezue, P.E., Director <br />Engineering and Transportation <br />BY: Keith Cooke, P.E., Principal Engi eer <br />~,' <br />SUBJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION: ~ ~ <br />MATTER OF AMENDMENT TO THE EXISTING UTILITY UNDERGROUND DISTRICT <br />ON EAST 14TH STREET FROM 150TH AVENUE TO LILLIAN AVENUE TO INCLUDE <br />THE SEGMENT FROM LILLIAN AVENUE TO THORNTON STREET/MAUD AVENUE. <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends approval of a resolution amending the existing Underground Utility District <br />on East 14th Street from 150th Avenue to Lillian Avenue to include the segment of East 14th <br />Street from Lillian Avenue to Thornton Street/Maud Avenue after conducting a public hearing. <br />BACKGROUND <br />On April 2b, 2009, Council passed a resolution of intention calling for a public hearing relating <br />to this matter. Staff notified the public of the hearing. <br />The City currently has two active underground utility districts. Phase 1 of undergrounding work <br />on East 14th Street from the southern City limits to 150th Avenue, a distance of about 2,b001inear <br />feet, started construction last fall. Phase 2 of undergrounding work on East 14th Street from 150th <br />Avenue to Lillian Avenue, a distance of about 1,400 linear feet, has been designated as a district <br />but has not yet been designed. <br />Analysis <br />The utilities on East 14th Street were relocated underground from the northern City limits to <br />Thornton Street and will soon be underground from the southern City limits to 150th Avenue. <br />The current five-year plan includes two projects on East 14th Street from 150th Avenue to San <br />Leandro Boulevard (Phase 2) and from San Leandro Boulevard to Thornton Street and Maud <br />
