REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY <br />Development staff continues to work aggressively to maintain San Leandro's <br />attractiveness to manufacturers and value-added industries. <br />Business Development also oversees private leaseholds at the Shoreline -Marina and <br />works with the Shoreline Business Association on cooperative marketing efforts <br />The Agency will continue to acquire and dispose of strategic real estate assets as <br />necessary to forward the goals of the community and the redevelopment plans, and <br />assist our development partners in completing successful redevelopment projects. <br />2008 - 2009 ACCOMPLISHMENTS <br />Economic Development <br />• Contributed to the attraction, expansion or relocation of numerous manufacturing, <br />service, office, and retail businesses including: expansion of Energy Recovery <br />Inc., General Foundry, NorCal Kenworth Trucks, Kraft Foods, Docustream, and <br />Grocery Outlet. <br />• Following an RFQ process, the City entered into an exclusive negotiating rights <br />agreement with Cal-Coast Development for the master development of the 40- <br />acre Shoreline opportunity site. The agreement sets the stage for negotiating a <br />development project. <br />• The City ratified a 33 member Shoreline Development Citizen's Advisory <br />Committee (CAC) in November 2008. The CAC, managed by the Office of <br />Business Development, includes diverse citywide representation and meets <br />monthly. <br />Plaza Project Area <br />• Commenced construction on the final phase of downtown improvements, <br />including improved lighting, sidewalks and landscaping, as well as creation of <br />community plaza on West Joaquin at East 14"' Street including a fountain, areas <br />for outdoor seating and dining. Project completion: Summer 2009. <br />• Seven property/business owners, representing eleven businesses, participated in <br />the Agency's commercial facade improvement program including: Robert Jones <br />& Associates, Tsuru Sushi, and Planet Coffee. Design assistance was provided <br />to the Masonic building, the 101 Callan Building and Liberty Tax building on East <br />14tH Street, the Sergio's building, San Leandro Wine and Spirit and Asia Delight, <br />the Sandwitchery on West Juana, Charcoals on Hays Street. <br />
