REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY <br />• Downtown San Leandro's "We Are San Leandro" marketing campaign continued <br />including a presence at the International Council of Shopping Centers Northern <br />California conference. The campaign is aimed at brokers and potential retailers <br />to educate them on the changing demographics of San Leandro's downtown. A <br />DowntownSanLeandro.com website was launched based on the campaign. <br />• The Agency entered into a Lease with an Option to Purchase agreement for 262 <br />Davis Street, the first step in acquiring the fourth parcel needed for development <br />of the Town Hall Square mixed-use development project at Davis Street and East <br />14th Street. <br />Joint Project Area <br />• Construction started in Fall 2008 on the 21,000 sq. ft. Senior Community Center <br />which includes classrooms, arts and crafts areas, exercise rooms, and a large <br />main hall which will also serve as an Emergency Operations Center. <br />Construction is scheduled for completion in 2010. <br />• Six property owners, representing seven businesses, participated in the Agency's <br />commercial facade improvement program. A forgivable loan was approved for <br />Scribner Center for paint, parking lot and landscaping improvements and to the <br />Englander/Comedy Club for enhanced entry and improvements and expansion of <br />the outdoor dining patio. Luke's Grill on East 14th Street received assistance for <br />minor improvements to their facade. Design assistance was also provided to the <br />Eden Center, Copymat and San Gaspar on East 14th Street, DC Dance on <br />Washington. <br />Design work on a four-to five-story LEED-certified parking garage continued. <br />The structure will include approximately 2,000 sq. ft. of retail along Estudillo <br />Avenue and enhancements will be made to Plaza Del Oro, the pedestrian entry <br />to the garage. Construction is projected to start in Fall 2009. <br />• A seasonal Downtown Farmers' Market was launched in spring 2008 will return <br />in 2009 and 2010. The market received solid support from the community, <br />averaging 1,500 patrons each week. <br />The Agency funded acquisition of the 150th Avenue/Hesperian Boulevard/East <br />14th Avenue Triangle parcel to beautify and improve traffic at the busy <br />intersection, consistent with the Agency's mid-term implementation plan. <br />
