MINUTES Page 11
City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting~June 15, 2009
Regarding the comments made at the meeting related to combining the
Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Adjustments, Councilmember
Prola agreed that it would be better to reduce the number of meetings rather
than to combine the boards, and he noted that both boards preferred this
option. Councilmember Prola commented that a merger of the boards
should proceed slowly.
3. Shoreline-Marina Committee Meeting of May 26, 2009. Accepted as submitted.
Councilmember Souza asked how the boat launch fee payment system would
work. Mr. Bakaldin stated that staff would not be able to provide full-time
enforcement, but would check periodically for compliance.
Recommendation for City Council Consideration:
a. Schedule approval to initiate a 6-month pilot program with a boat launch
ramp fee structure as recommended by staff, with daily fees collected by an
Iron Ranger self-register envelope deposit box using the "honor system."
By consensus, the City Council approved this recommendation.
4. Shoreline-Marina Committee: Shoreline-Marina Town Hall Meetings of May 20,
2009 and May 28, 2009. Accepted as submitted.
12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS
Councilmember Gregory commented on the following activities that he attended/participated
in: the annual Flag Day ceremony; a visit to the Fruitvale Transit Village childcare center on
June 2; the successful 100`" Anniversary Cherry Festival; the Health is not just Health Care
meeting on June 5; and a meeting of the Minetta Transportation Institute. Earlier this
evening, Councilmember Gregory attended the third of three meetings held by the Eden
Township Healthcare District at the San Leandro Library, and he estimated that about 500
people were in attendance. He asked Daily Review reporter Karen Holzmeister to comment
on the straw poll taken by the District Board. Ms. Holzmeister stated that the District Board
took a straw poll, and the results were 4-0, with Director Rajendra Ratnesar abstaining, to
oppose the County's proposal to convert San Leandro Hospital into a rehabilitation and urgent
care center.
Councilmember Souza commented that she attended the Chamber of Commerce Government
Affairs Committee meeting, at which George Bischalany, CEO of the Eden Medical Center,
shared information on the future of San Leandro Hospital. Councilmember Souza also
attended the Cherry Festival, and gave kudos to the Recreation & Human Services staff for
the successful event. She commented on the cost of dumping a load of trash at the Davis
Street Transfer Station.
