April - June 2009 <br />Construction is nearly <br />complete on the new Joaquin Plaza <br />and other downtown lighting and <br />pedestrian improvements. Workers <br />have poured the concrete for Joaquin <br />Plaza, upgraded utilities, installed <br />new benches and bike racks and are <br />putting the finishing touches on the <br />fountain. Enhanced street lighting <br />has been installed and the decorative <br />"Downtown San Leandro" banners <br />are now on display throughout <br />the Downtown with the "Farmers' <br />Market" banners installation along <br />Parrott Street scheduled for early <br />July. The landscaping is the final <br />phase of the project and all work <br />is scheduled to be complete by the <br />end of July. <br />2,000 Visit the Farmers' Market Each Week <br />Wow! Attendance at <br />the Downtown San Leandro <br />seasonal Farmers' Market has <br />increased this year to an average <br />of 2,000 visitors each week. This <br />tremendous community support <br />is encouraging and should assist <br />the City in attracting additional <br />restaurants and specialty retail <br />stores once the economy turns <br />around. <br />The local farmers are <br />thrilled to have the opportunity <br />to provide their produce every <br />Wednesday, from 4:00 - 5:00 <br />p.m. in Downtown San Leandro <br />through October 21, 2009. <br />Please stop by the <br />Information Booth to learn how <br />to support reuse and recycling, <br />pick up your free food scrap pail <br />refill bags, purchase discounted <br />reusable cloth produce bags and <br />tote bags, and give us feedback <br />on how we're doing.
