Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 6 -
Redevelopment Agency Meeting - February 3, 1997
Council to approve the Letter of Intent; she noted the project cannot
move forward without the Letter. She introduced Mr. David Irmer,
Developer.
Mr. Irmer commented on the positive impression by the youth of the
community. He presented the project's history and earlier proposals.
He described the proposed project and the desire for high-quality and
financially stable tenants. He reviewed the site plan and list of
tenants. He estimated that 80% of the project would be leased within
the next 60 days. He commented on the assistance provided by the Friends
of the Creek.
Council Member Galvan said he is excited by the proposal and appreciates
the economics behind the mix of tenants. He suggested moving tenants
around to create a "restaurant row."
Council Member Glaze commented on the good mix of tenants, the lack of
liquor sales at Walgreen's, desirable restaurant use, and positive work,
including the creek area.
Council Member Loeffler commented on the Toler Street bridge and
accessibility to the site. He encouraged a book store use. He said it
was good to include the Friends of the Creek.
Council Member Young agreed that it was good to include the Friends of
the Creek, asked about the height of the loading area, and the effect on
the creek. She asked for clarification regarding the Letter of Intent.
Vice Mayor Polvorosa congratulated Mr. Irmer on the designs. He said he
has concerns about the appearance of the loading dock and said the
community does not need adrive-through at Walgreen's.
Mayor Corbett encouraged a book store use, noted her appreciation for
the creek-walk access, sensitivity to the condominium residents, and
said there was some concern over the design and noise issues.
Council Member Galvan commented on signage and use.
Council Member Lothrop commented on a desire for consistent design
throughout the community.
Mayor Corbett said this location serves as a gateway to the community.
