Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council, Page - 3 - <br />San Leandro Redevelopment Agency, and San Leandro <br />Economic Development Agency Joint Meeting - May 5, 1997 <br />D. Presentation of Commendation to Peter Ballew for Receiving the 1997 <br />North Coast Section Wrestling Honor Coach Award as Coach of the San <br />Leandro High School Wrestling Team. <br />The Mayor presented the Commendation and briefly commented on Mr. <br />Ballew's commitment to youth of the community. Mr. Ballew accepted the <br />Commendation and stated that he has enjoyed serving the community and is <br />honored to be acknowledged. <br />3. PUBLIC HEARINGS <br />A. Matter of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program Year <br />Activities for 1997-98. <br />This being the time and place for the Public Hearing on the above <br />matter, CDBG Coordinator Jacqui Diaz presented the staff report and <br />recommended that Council approve the amounts and recipients of CDBG <br />Block Grant funds, as recommended, and authorize the City Manager to <br />execute and submit the Action Plan to HUD for Fiscal Year 1997-98. <br />The Hearing was then opened to the public. <br />There being no comments from the public, the Public Hearing was closed. <br />M/S/C Polvorosa and Galvan. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 <br />The following Resolution was then introduced: <br />- Resolution Na. 97-48, Resolution of the San Leandro City Council <br />Approving Action Plan for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) <br />Funds, Fiscal Year 1997-98, and Authorizing Execution and Submission <br />Thereof by the City Manager (approves amounts and recipients of CDBG <br />Block Grant funds and authorizes the City Manager to execute and <br />submit Action Plan to HUD for Fiscal Year 1997-98). (2096) <br />M/S/C Polvorosa and Galvan. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 <br />4. PUBLIC COMMENTS <br />Public Comments are limited to 5 minutes per person. The public is invited <br />to make any comments related to Agenda items, or other items of public <br />interest, at this time. <br />A. Carey Walker, 471 Santa Monica, addressed the Council with concerns <br />regarding the costs for additional police officers; the consideration of <br />an increase in pay for civil servants; and noise from airplanes, as well <br />as trains. He also expressed concerns with funding, as it relates to <br />the School Board, and the Mayor suggested that he contact the School <br />District as they would be the responsible body to address those funding <br />concerns. <br />
