Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 7 - <br />San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Meeting - September 2, 1997 <br />Carey Walker, 471 Santa Monica, addressed the Council, stating that he <br />drove a bus for many years and they were never allowed to back up <br />without assistance, in the interest of safety. <br />Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne Drive, addressed the Council, asking who <br />owns Pike Avenue, and confirmed with staff that it is a publicly owned <br />street. Mr. Filipovich then noted that we are back to the exclusionary <br />rule. If you don't own both sides of the street, would they be <br />excluded? He also questioned if Coca Cola was 100% union with union <br />drivers. Staff responded that they were. He concluded by stating he <br />does not understand why the street has to be blocked entirely. <br />There being no further comments from the public, the Public Hearing was <br />closed. <br />M/S/C Young and Glaze. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 <br />Council discussion ensued and Council Member Polvorosa stated he would <br />like to see this go back to staff to meet further with representatives <br />from Coca Cola and surrounding businesses to resolve the issues. <br />The City Manager suggested the Council move forward with introducing the <br />Ordinance and direct staff to work with adjacent property owners and <br />Coca Cola to resolve issues of concern; i.e., traffic congestion, <br />possible striping, and the movement for safe vehicle entry onto <br />properties. <br />The Mayor, with the consensus of Council, directed staff to report back <br />to Council regarding resolution of those issues at the time the <br />Ordinance is before the Council for adoption on September 15, 1997. <br />The following Ordinance was then introduced: <br />- Ordinance No. 97-028, An Ordinance Vacating a Portion of a Public <br />Right of Way, Pike Avenue, Approximately 395 Feet ± West of Wicks <br />Boulevard to Griffith Street (provides for vacation by the City of a <br />portion of Pike Avenue). (1007) <br />- Passed to Print <br />M/S/C Polvorosa and Glaze. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 <br />A ten-minute break was announced at 9:25 p.m. <br />The meeting reconvened at 9:35 a.m. <br />
