Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 7 - San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Meeting - September 2, 1997 Carey Walker, 471 Santa Monica, addressed the Council, stating that he drove a bus for many years and they were never allowed to back up without assistance, in the interest of safety. Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne Drive, addressed the Council, asking who owns Pike Avenue, and confirmed with staff that it is a publicly owned street. Mr. Filipovich then noted that we are back to the exclusionary rule. If you don't own both sides of the street, would they be excluded? He also questioned if Coca Cola was 100% union with union drivers. Staff responded that they were. He concluded by stating he does not understand why the street has to be blocked entirely. There being no further comments from the public, the Public Hearing was closed. M/S/C Young and Glaze. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 Council discussion ensued and Council Member Polvorosa stated he would like to see this go back to staff to meet further with representatives from Coca Cola and surrounding businesses to resolve the issues. The City Manager suggested the Council move forward with introducing the Ordinance and direct staff to work with adjacent property owners and Coca Cola to resolve issues of concern; i.e., traffic congestion, possible striping, and the movement for safe vehicle entry onto properties. The Mayor, with the consensus of Council, directed staff to report back to Council regarding resolution of those issues at the time the Ordinance is before the Council for adoption on September 15, 1997. The following Ordinance was then introduced: - Ordinance No. 97-028, An Ordinance Vacating a Portion of a Public Right of Way, Pike Avenue, Approximately 395 Feet ± West of Wicks Boulevard to Griffith Street (provides for vacation by the City of a portion of Pike Avenue).
