Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council Meeting Page - 10 - <br />September 15, 1997 <br />C. City Council Comments <br />1. Council Member Young commented on an upcoming Public Safety <br />Meeting in District 2 at Jefferson School at 7:00 p.m. on <br />Tuesday, September 16. <br />2. Council Member Polvorosa commented on the recent Chamber/ <br />Business BBQ and complimented Terri Neumann on the location of <br />the festivities. He expressed how great the event was and also <br />commended Tom Guarino for his efforts. <br />3. Council Member Glaze reported on the School Liaison Committee <br />Meeting and commented on the issue of insurance, noting they <br />will be exploring the City co-sponsoring events on school sites <br />in order to utilize the City's insurance umbrella. <br />4. Vice Mayor Loeffler reported that he represented the City at <br />the 25th Year Celebration of the Fargo Senior Center. He also <br />commented on the railroad-crossing issue and suggested the <br />Council consider posting the address of the President of Union <br />Pacific Railroad at the crossings so that if citizens had <br />concerns, they could contact him personally. There was Council <br />consensus to have staff research what kind of signage could be <br />placed at railroad crossings that will refer citizens to Union <br />Pacific directly. <br />Vice Mayor Loeffler thanked Council Member Lothrop for hosting <br />the Tour of District 6 and commented on how insightful the <br />experience was. <br />5. Council Member Lothrop reported on the Tour of District 6 and <br />asked that staff put together a report and/or steps that would <br />be needed to address issues and concerns resulting from the <br />Tour, and bring that report back to the Council for further <br />direction. <br />Council Member Lothrop also remarked on the pedestrian accident <br />which took place at Aurora and Marina this afternoon. The <br />accident involved a student riding a bicycle without a helmet. <br />The City Manager noted staff will be drafting a report on the <br />process of issuing warnings and/or tickets to those persons not <br />wearing helmets. It was noted the City does put on bicycle- <br />safety events, as well as bicycle rodeos, to help cyclists to <br />be more aware of the hazards of riding without a helmet. <br />Council Member Polvorosa commented that parents need to be <br />responsible for their children wearing helmets, as well. Mayor <br />Corbett commented on the importance of students being informed <br />about bicycling rules/regulations. <br />
