Merv Rocha, Davis West Neighborhood Group, addressed the Council, asking
for an explanation of the investment "risk" for San Leandro residents as
it relates to the Conference Center. He asked what we would do with the
building if they don't work out?
G. Larry Allphin, Downtown Business Association, addressed the Council and
gave a brief report on the success of the recent Sausage and Suds
Festival.
Mayor Corbett commented to Mr. Allphin and extended her thanks for all
of the committee's hard work on the very successful Sausage and Suds
Festival. She recognized the many volunteers and staff who attended,
with a special thanks to the efforts of staff members Nanci Klein and
Rosie Rios.
Council Member Polvorosa commented that he was very proud to recognize
those involved in the Sausage and Suds Festival. He said it far
exceeded everyone's expectations and thanked all who participated --
staff, Virginia Fox, Nanci Klein and Rosie Rios.
Mayor Corbett noted that there will be an official presentation of
thanks at a future Council Meeting.
Vice Mayor Loeffler commented on the Sausage and Suds Event and noted it
was great. He added that the Downtown Business Association has really
"grown-up," and many thank you's should go out to those who helped put
the event together. He noted credit should go to the media, also. He
concluded by giving credit to all those involved for their incredible
teamwork.
Council Member Lothrop said she attended and had a really good time.
She agreed with all the comments made about the Festival.
H. John Faria, 2410 Lakeview Drive, addressed the Council regarding the
recycling ordinance. He questioned what the ordinance actually means
and asked if the ordinance would allow him to sell his recyclables
himself. Regarding the matter of EBDA, he noted it has been a long,
painful process; and it doesn't seem right that Hayward gets $10 million
for traffic mitigation and San Leandro gets nothing. He feels San
Leandro should be allowed to sell its excess capacity. He stated his
concern that San Leandro is not getting its fair share and urged the
Council to continue to work toward managing excess capacity far the
benefit of San Leandro's citizens.
Council Member Glaze clarified with the City Attorney that giving
recyclables to a fundraising group, such as the Boys & Girls Club, would
not be illegal.
I. Michele Bernsen, 20 Begier, addressed the Council regarding the Farmers'
Market. She noted there is not enough variety at Pelton Center; and
perhaps someone should look into moving the Farmers' Market to mid-week.
