Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council Meeting Page - 5 -
November ll, 1997
B. Len Rogers, 16915 Robey Drive, addressed the Council regarding the
removal of the parking-limit signs on the north side of Joaquin Avenue,
located directly in front of the Murrieta Condos, 960-968 Joaquin
Avenue. He submitted a petition which outlined the history of requests
made to the Engineering Department. He concluded by stating the
overwhelming majority of residents (75) on Joaquin have stated they want
the signs to go. They feel the majority should rule and requested the
Council take this into consideration and remove the signs.
C. Don Fadden, 959 Joaquin Avenue, Apt. C, addressed the Council, noting he
has been a resident there for 14-15 years and has a difficult time
parking at night. He feels the two-hour limit is unjust and asked the
Council to consider their request for removal of the signs.
D. Bruno Inpolce, 983 Joaquin Avenue, addressed the Council and spoke in
favor of removal of the two-hour parking signs. He noted there should
be some sort of equality and to not do so is discrimination.
The Mayor suggested Council direct staff to look at this issue and
report on the history of the parking signs in the area.
Council Member Young added that it is important that the report include
the parking which is currently available in the area.
E. Richmond Marshall, 15014 Wengate Street, addressed the Council as a
Member of the Recreation and Parks Commission and the Men's Golf Club.
He commented that staff should be recognized for their efforts with
regard to the Golf Course. He mentioned the efforts of Wandzia Grycz
and David Sams. He also noted that Members of the Council should be
commended for checking out the golf courses.
With regard to the proposed Skateboarding Ordinance, he questioned
whether there is a need to look at an additional Skateboard Park rather
than an ordinance.
F. Laverne Anderson, 1495 - 159th Avenue, addressed the Council, publicly
acknowledging the Police Department for apprehending an individual who
had stolen a rent check from him.
G. He noted there is an avenue here that can be expanded
to help those that really need it, and that is senior citizens. There
needs to be a funding system set up for senior citizens, which he has
brought up to City staff before. He noted the article is very obvious
about what has taken place. He quoted the article by reading: ..the
Oakland job seekers are getting help finding work in San Leandro thanks
to the cooperation between two cities. These are the first fruits
resulting from the joint Oakland and San Leandro City Council Meeting
held in May and September. San Leandro's manager of Redevelopment
Projects...is part of the Oakland's Community Economic Development
Commission...." He stated we are back again - with redevelopment and
development - which is being used as a source of funding. He further
quoted, "...in addition, it provides employers with information about
