A-2.2 Task 2 -Preliminary Design, Estimates and Recommendations
Consultant shall create a base plan for each of the intersections utilizing the
information from Task 1. In addition, Consultant shall contact utility companies
to request utility location information at each of the intersections. Consultant
shall then add to the base plans all relevant information collected from utility
companies and during Consultant's field reconnaissance.
Upon completion of the subtasks detailed below, Consultant shall prepare a
review package containing conceptual plans, preliminary construction cost
estimates and recommendations for each intersection and submit it to the City for
review. Following the completion of the City's review, Consultant shall schedule
a meeting to discuss with City their comments and review the recommendations
in the field if needed. The City will then select a detection scenario, final wireless
equipment locations and final EVP equipment locations, at each of the applicable
intersections, for Consultant to use in the Final Design phase.
A-2.2.1 Vehicle Detection: Consultant shall evaluate and recommend a
sampling detector design for each of the following eleven
intersections: Bancroft Ave. at Dutton Ave. and at Sybil Ave.;
Floresta Blvd. at Fremont Ave.; Hesperian Blvd. at Bayfair Way, at
Springlake Dr., and at Thornally St.; Marina Blvd. at Alvarado St., at
San Leandro Blvd., and at Wayne Ave./Teagarden St; and San
Leandro Blvd. at West Estudillo Ave. and at Williams St. This shall
include field visits to the project intersections to verify existing
detector configurations, conduit space, existing pole locations,
controller types, controller cabinet space, and any other information
that could aid in the determination of the most cost effective design.
Utilizing information collected as part of previous work for City (e.g.
Traffic-Responsive Feasibility Study, ATSS designs) and from the
tasks above, Consultant shall analyze up to three different scenarios
for installing sampling detection at each project intersection:
Inductive Loop Detectors (IL) at advance locations;
Video Detection Cameras (VC); and
Remote Traffic Microwave Sensor (RTMS) Detectors.
For each of these scenarios, Consultant shall prepare a conceptual
plan for each intersection. The conceptual plans shall consist of hand-
drawn mark-ups on the base plans. Consultant shall then prepare a
preliminary construction cost estimate for each scenario at each
intersection. Based on the cost estimates, Consultant shall make
recommendations as to which scenario should be used at each
intersection.
Advanced Signal System Traffic Sample Detectors 2/17/05
Project No. OS-120-28-164 Page 16 of 22
