POLICIES AND ACTIONS <br />Policy 57.09 IMMIGRANT HOUSEHOLDS <br />Work with community groups, including faith- <br />based and nonprofit organizations, to provide <br />outreach on housing resources and needs to <br />immigrant households and others with limited <br />English language abilities. Local housing <br />programs should respond to the needs of a <br />culturally diverse community that includes multi- <br />generational families, a variety of living <br />arrangements, and a large number ofnon-English <br />speaking households. <br />Policy 57.10 SERVICE-ENRICHED HOUSING <br />Promote social services and programs in <br />affordable housing projects that assist lower <br />income households in obtaining the financial <br />resources needed to increase their housing <br />choices in the City. <br />PROGRESS <br />The City conducts outreach activities <br />as new housing developments are <br />approved. Staff works on an ongoing <br />basis to consider different options <br />available to conduct effective <br />outreach to non-English speaking <br />households and maintains a list of <br />city staff that is available for <br />translation services for 161anguages <br />including American Sign Language <br />during normal business hours. <br />The City reviews housing proposals <br />on a day-by-day basis and considers <br />program amenities that maybe <br />proposed, especially in affordable <br />housing developments. <br />The Islander Motel will include <br />supportive services for purchase of <br />affordable units. <br />Policy 57.11 PUBLIC SERVICE EMPLOYEES <br />Recognize school teachers, police and fire <br />personnel, child care workers, nurses, and other <br />public service employees as an essential part of <br />the local workforce and seek to improve housing <br />opportunities for these groups within the City. <br />The Inclusionary Ordinance recently <br />adopted lists workers for school <br />districts and City employees as <br />priorities. <br />Action 57.11- A: The City continues <br />to maintain the First Time <br />Homebuyer program and other <br />programs intended to help with <br />housing affordabiliry_ <br />Action 57.11-A: Housing for Public Service Employees <br />Explore programs which assist San Leandro's teachers, nurses, police officers, and other <br />community service employees in obtaining suitable and affordable housing within the <br />community. Explore the availability of state funding for such programs.
