Promote use of low flow water fixtures to reduce water <br />use and inflow. <br />^ Install more efficient pumps and motors at the WPCP. Complete retrofits of efficient <br />pumps and motor systems can reduce energy use, lower maintenance costs. Variable- <br />frequencydrives, devices that adjust speeds of electric motors, can also provide cost <br />savings as well as energy savings for treatment plants. <br />^ Expiore opportunities to use grey water (recycled water) for landscape irrigation. <br />Grey water refers to water from bathroom sinks, washing machines, showers and tubs that <br />can be reused for irrigation or toilet flushing. Grey water reduces water usage, saves <br />money and reduces the load on sewage treatment plants. The City may also consider <br />entering into a new contract with EBMUD that encourages more recycled water reuse (such <br />as having them provide the Tony Lema golf course a loan or grant to change sod to a more <br />tolerant species). <br />^ Composting agreement between the Davis Street Transfer Station and the WPCP. <br />Opportunities could exist to supply DSTS with recycled water and to combine their green <br />waste and WPCP bio solids for compost. <br />Page 53 <br />
