GREEN ~'t~~;;~h~~i~z <br />November 30, 2009 <br />The Honorable Ray LaHood, Secretary <br />c/o TIGER Discretionary Grants Program Manager <br />United State Department of Transportation <br />1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE <br />Washington, DC 20590 <br />RE: Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER} Discretionary Grant: <br />City of San Leandro, CA - Estudillo/Callan Garage and Electric Vehicle Battery Swap <br />Station/Charge Facility <br />Dear Honorable Ray LaHood: <br />I am writing on behalf of the East Bay Green Corridor Partnership (EBGCP) to give our <br />enthusiastic support for the City of San Leandro's TIGER discretionary grant application. <br />The EBGCP was established in December, 2007 to build upon the region's existing strength as a <br />center for emerging green technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The original six members <br />included Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; UC Berkeley; and the cities of Berkeley, <br />Oakland, Richmond and Emeryville. In June, 2009, the Corridor was expanded to include the cities <br />of Alameda, San Leandro, El Cerrito, and Albany, the California State University East Bay, and the <br />Peralta and Contra Costa Community College Districts. <br />The East Bay Green Corridor's mission is to create a thriving region of green technology <br />innovation, commercialization and local economic development in a manner that creates high <br />quality jobs and addresses environmental and social concerns. <br />The City of San Leandro's proposed TIGER project, entitled the San Leandro Estudillo/Callan <br />Garage and Electric Vehicle Battery Swap Station/Charge Facility, fits squarely within our mission. <br />If funded, this project would have far-reaching positive impacts not only for the City and its <br />residents, but could serve as a model project for the East Bay, and the country as a whole. <br />In partnership with Better Place http://www.betterplace.com/, "a global provider for EV networks <br />and services," the City of San Leandro's proposed parking structure would provide 450 parking <br />spaces plus the infrastructure and facilities for electric vehicles, including charge stations and a <br />
