4. Proposed Senior Center: The City has expended approximately $500,000 in local funds
to install a new traffic signal at the East 14`h Street intersection that will serve the future
City Senior Center and existing San Leandro Hospital. The signal improvements are now
complete and the Senior Center ($19 Million in committed funds) is under construction
and scheduled to be completed in 2010.
5. New San Leandro Unified School District 9`~' Grade Campus: The City is providing
$2,200,000 in local funding to assist the local school district to complete the construction
of a 9`h grade high school campus contiguous to the East 14th Street project area.
Construction has started with a planned completion date of Fall 2010.
The East 14`h Street Improvement project is a central element of the City of San Leandro's
overall redevelopment and improvements plans. The City has developed an overall vision for
the corridor and additional federal assistance would build on previous successful redevelopments
along the corridor.
Budget Breakdown and Total Cost: The estimated total project cost for Phase 1 is
$4,056,000. This project has not been reviewed by DOT/FHWA nor did it receive any funding
within SAFETEA-LU.
$400,000 has been made available for the project from the Metropolitan Transportation
Commission through a Housing Incentive Program (HIP) grant. Additionally, FY06 HUD-EDI
funds of $350,000 were approved in 2005 for pedestrian and safety improvements within the
project area. An additional allocation in 2010 would allow for a more substantial project and
assist the City in seeking further assistance from State and regional sources. The City has also
allocated $300,000 in Redevelopment Agency monies to prepare the Project Study Report (PSR)
for the project and $14,000,000 for Senior Center construction and $2,200,000 is assistance
funding to the San Leandro Unified School District for construction of a 9th grade campus also
contiguous to the project.
The preliminary budget for the Phase 1 project is as follows:
Pre-design
Design and Engineering
Construction Support
Total Construction Cost
Contingency
TOTAL PROJECT COST
$6,000
$550,000
$50,000
$3,300,000
$150,000
$4,056,000
Amount in the President's Bud eg t Request: (If applicable)
Authorization: (If applicable)
Appropriations History:
U.
