South MacArthur Initial Design Concept -Plan Options
Option A: Angle Parking on West w/Traffic Island
+ More bike lanes.
+ Mural (on freeway wall).
+ (Should have) stop light at pedestrian crossings.
+ This area (north/east frontage along freeway) needs some depth
to balance the street. A bike lane is appealing because there
wouldn't be pedestrians crossing the street. But the bike lane
should be extended beyond this block; it needs to go some
where! An idea (like this) to create depth is good, with lots of
trees and green!
+ Use flashing lights (on edge of crosswalks), activated by pedes
trians prior to crossing.
+ Like the bike lanes, trees, and diagonal parking.
+ Island is a great idea.
+ Like the diagonal parking on the west and the small median
like on Shattuck with parallel on the east side.
+ (Should have) angle parking on both sides.
+ Option A is much preferable; more attractive and better park-
ing for merchants.
+ Love the island/angle parking like Shattuck. A+.
+ Like the bike lane; make sure it's easy to make the left turn to
park on other side.
+ Great.
+ I would like to have an island median in the MacArthur Blvd.
plan (like Option B).
+ Okay, if median cut in front of Evergreen site (for access).
+ Median is important for safety and enhancement.
+ Good, but how will those in northbound lane park on west side
of the street?
+ Evergreen Property: instead of residential use property for
outside mall with more retail shops.
+ Pedestrian crossing (should be at south end of island).
+ Dedicated bike lane is good but (existing) trees must stay.
+ Wonderful.
+ Another idea: sketch of angle parking on both sides at "indent'
w/no traffic island.
+ Creekside enhancement YES!
+ Make creek more available.
+ Yes (closing Bridge for plaza).
+ Good idea (closing Bridge for plaza)!
+ Like the trees between every 2 spaces.
- Pay attention to entrance to Sheffield Village; work with Oak to
dissuade traffic on Marlow Avenue
- Extend bike land down (to and around) the Bend:
- Put anorth/south crosswakc here (at Dutton/Marlow).
- Work with Oakland to close off Sheffield Village to increased
traffic.
- Need to be able to turn across MacArthur to get to retail on
west side.
- Will the bike lane be only on the east side so that north and
south bike traffic on one side?
- Make bike lane a pedestrian lane too!
- Need parking and bike shared like on Bancroft; not separate
bike lane.
- No on A.
- No bike lane needed; good idea, but 1 block of bike lane does
nothing. Most successful bike lanes go~for miles.
- No bike lanes this side.
- Don t like bicycle lane.
- Big bicycle lane for 11ong block not wise. San Leandro, and this
area particularly, is not a bike town. Not enough (potential use)
to justify this proposal.
- Bike lane in this option is waste of money. Nobody will take all
the trouble to bring their bike for less than a mile of ride. It is
inconvenient as it abruptly ends at freeway exit at Joaquin.
Shared lane as in other option maybe the way to go.
- Leave out bike lane.
- No bike lane. Prefer shared parallel and bike on east side. If
improved and retail is increased need as much parking as
possible.
- Closing Bridge Avenue (for plaza) creates driving problems for
people exiting Casey, Rodney, Collier, etc., wishing to turn east
on Estudillo because of traffic blocking the exits at Collier,
Morgan, San Rafael, San Jose. The safest way out is to use
Bridge to MacArthur and use the traffic lights at MacArthur
and Estudillo.
- AZ -
