currently on probation within the City of San Leandro. These probation officers will <br />work closely with the School Resource Officers and school staff. By having the <br />probation officers assigned to the schools, it will send a clear message to the probationary <br />students that they are working closely with the Police Department and school officials to <br />ensure that they, the students, succeed. <br />Senior Trip: The School Resource Officer attends the end of year senior trip to <br />act as a chaperon. This gives the School Resource Officer an opportunity to interact with <br />the students on a different, more personal level. The senior trip usually consists of a <br />weekend trip to Disneyland. <br />Sportin E~ vents: The San Leandro Police Department enters into an agreement <br />with the San Leandro Unified School District to provide police services at all home <br />football and basketball games. Additionally, police services are provided at all school- <br />sponsored dances and evening events. The School Resource Officer typically provides <br />the police services. <br />Miscellaneous: In addition to the above-mentioned programs, the. School <br />Resource Officer actively provides gang mediation and conflict resolution. This is done <br />on a regular basis as issues are identified and need to be addressed. There are two active <br />Hispanic gangs present within the high school, the Nortenos and the Surenos. Their <br />activities during and after school have to be closely monitored to prevent physical <br />altercations. <br />This grant will allow for this agency to add a third full-time police officer to the School <br />Resource Officer Program. The duties of all three School Resource Officers would be assigned <br />as follows: a) One School Resource Officer would be responsible for all activities at San <br />NARRATIVE ADDENDUM PAGE 4 <br />COPS IN SCHOOLS GRANT <br />
