Consolidated Plan Annual Performance Report - FI' 2000-2001
City of San Leandro
Page 24
Actions Taken to Reduce the Number of Persons Living below the Poverty Level
~ City staff participated in the Continuum of Care Working Group, which continues to
develop a countywide network to address homelessness and poverty issues.
~ CDBG funds were combined with the City's Community Assistance funding program
to support non-profit agencies that provide job training and assistance to low-income
members of the community. Several of the agencies coordinate efforts for assistance
and case management for lower income families and individuals.
0 Economic development efforts highlighted business retention and revitalization,
which in turn yielded employment opportunities for lower-income residents. CDBG
staff continued to work with the Economic Development staff to provide support to
businesses funded through the Small Business Loan Program. During FY 2000-2001,
the City's Office of Business Development and the City of Oakland Office of
Economic Development held a job fair at the Oakland Coliseum. Five hundred
prospective employees and 70 Oakland/San Leandro business representatives attended
the fair.
~ Project Literacy continued its tutoring efforts with local industries and the Business
Development Division. The Davis Street Community Center continued operation of
the One-Stop Center, which serves as a job development and family resources center.
