Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - May 20, 1996 Page - 3 -
5. PUBLIC COMMENTS
Public Comments are limited to 5 minutes per person. The public is invited
to make any comments related to Agenda items (including San Leandro
Redevelopment Agency, San Leandro Parking Authority, and San Leandro
Industrial Development Authority) or other items of public interest at this
time. Comments regarding Public Hearing items will be heard during the
Public Hearing portion of the Agenda.
A. Florence Ruha thanked the Mayor and City Attorney for dealing with the
• Caltrans dump site.
B. Al Rosenga, 534 Parrott Street, Peralta Citizens' Association, said he
is encouraged that people will be able to comment on a subject after it
has been presented. He said proposed changes to Parrott Street have
not been discussed with him or his Association. He asked if any
improvements would be made to the First Interstate and Crocker Bank
sites.
C. Barbara Tierney, 3965 Mission Way, thanked the City for the interim
ordinance related to adult entertainment. She requested that the
Floresta Homeowners' Association be notified of any hearings. She said
the music from Dick's Restaurant sometimes disturbs neighbors in the
area. She said the ordinance is appreciated. Council Member Glaze
suggested the homeowners' association and residents of the area let
Dick's know they object to these types of activities.
D. Cary Walker, 471 Santa Monica, resident of Mission Bay Mobilehome Park,
requested rent control for Sandev and other parks. He said Mission Bay
cannot have rent control because they are locked into a five -year
agreement. He said there is no law allowing park owners to pass their
costs on to tenants. He said the form sent out for tenants to vote did
not allow them to vote no. He said the park tenants were not treated
fairly. He said Assemblyman Sweeney's office told him there are no
laws allowing park owners to pass their costs on to tenants.
Mayor Corbett said the City Council subcommittee held several meetings
at which residents of Mission Bay were present and made comments. She
said the Council made its decision based on what the majority of the
residents said they wanted.
E. John Justino, 1211 - 147th Avenue, suggested that the ball field at
Thrasher Park be named the Tony Nasciemento Field in recognition of Mr.
Nasciemento's 50 years of service to the community. Vice Mayor
Polvorosa suggested Mr. Justino bring this before the Recreation and
Parks Commission, on which Mr. Justino serves. Council Member Glaze
recommended reviewing the City policy on naming facilities.
