Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - May 20, 1996 Page - 8 - <br /> NEW BUSINESS (continued) <br /> D. City Council Reports on Intergovernmental Agencies. <br /> Council Member Young said she attended the Alameda County Reuse <br /> Authority meeting on behalf of Council Member Loeffler. She said they <br /> took a tour of the base and saw the area where the Least Tern makes its <br /> home on the tarmac. She said the base is now open to the public on <br /> weekends. <br /> E. Approval of Work Session Items Requiring Action. None <br /> F. Report on Closed Session Actions Taken. No Report <br /> 8. PUBLIC HEARINGS <br /> None <br /> 9. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> A. Council Member Young suggested the entryway signs be changed from <br /> "Entering San Leandro" to "Welcome to San Leandro." <br /> B. Vice Mayor Polvorosa said he attended the Business Faire at Costco, <br /> which was well attended. He also attended the Hispanic Community <br /> Affairs Council School Luncheon where 56 schools were awarded $50,000 <br /> in scholarships, including San Leandro High School student Wanda Rojas. <br /> C. Council Member Glaze requested that staff look into the possibility of <br /> having graffiti removed from San Lorenzo Creek, the culvert area, <br /> between Washington Avenue and the west end. He said Alameda County is <br /> not removing the graffiti. <br /> Council Member Glaze said he attended Arroyo High School's Renaissance <br /> Program which recognizes students achieving a 3.0 grade -point average <br /> for three consecutive quarters. He said the program ranked #2 in <br /> largest percentage increase in the nation, and #1 in California. He <br /> said he is proud of the students who are excelling. <br /> Council Member Glaze spoke regarding adult entertainment and said he <br /> does not want to legislate morality but does want to look at where <br /> these types of events take place and whether they are appropriate. He <br /> said a restaurant which serves primarily families and senior citizens <br /> is not an appropriate location. <br /> D. Council Member Lothrop said she found the downtown tours offered to new <br /> Council Members extremely helpful. She said it would be beneficial to <br /> the community to look at downtown areas and think about what they would <br /> like to see; it is important for them to be involved. <br />
