• Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 13 -
Redevelopment Agency Meeting - August 5, 1996
Grycz: As a member of the steering committee, I wanted to reassure and
reiterate what John Jermanis has stated. It will be several years before
the program is fully self supporting. I will certainly make sure we get
the comparisons from other cities. I do know that encouraging residents is
one of the primary goals of the program. Fees for the program are steep
for residents; consequently, we look for business support. The fundraiser
was a real success, and those monies were earmarked for candidates that
could not afford the full fare. The program has real benefits to you and
we will come back with the additional answers.
Council Member Polvorosa: Could you give us the total number of
participants.
Mayor Corbett: The Leadership Program is currently looking for applicants.
If you know residents who are interested, please bring those names to the
attention of Tom Guarino at the Chamber.
5.7 Resolution of the San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Approving Plans and
Specifications and Calling for Bids for Parrott Street Redesign, Project
No. 96- 262 -8440 (provides for redesign of Parrott Street to accommodate
diagonal parking). (2815)
Council Member Glaze: I have two concerns -- the staff report talked about
Parrott and Washington. Right now we have the flashing signal and a
proposal for removal of the signal for a four -way stop. I feel
differently. Secondly, when this was brought up, originally, I asked for
background information on contracts we had out within Engineering and
Transportation. Without that background information, I wouldn't be able to
vote. We need to look at what contracts are already out there, put
contracts out more smartly, and try to make as much of the money go as far
as we can.
Council Member Young: My question isn't as complex as Bob's. I recall
asking a question about parking meters. I don't know whether those parking
meters will be put in at a later time or put in at all.
Debbie Potter: We are on an ambitious timeline in order to have a grand
reopening for each center before the holidays. This may or may not mesh as
part of the Council's deliberations. We are trying to leverage our
investment and make the most of what we can.
Council Member Glaze: At some point we have to stop and look at every
contract and consultant to see where we can consolidate and make cuts or
see what we can accomplish working with other cities. Too many times these
keep coming back to us. I understand it is fast tracked, but I want an
answer back. Honestly, I didn't get it back. With regard to the traffic
signal. I have seen lots of cars going through the flashing red. I can
attest to what I am seeing.
