• Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 4 - <br /> Redevelopment Agency Meeting - August 19, 1996 <br /> 4.3 Tom Guarino, Chamber of Commerce, said he provided the City Council <br /> with a report of information on the San Leandro Leadership Program, <br /> as they had earlier requested. He then introduced the speakers for <br /> the evening. <br /> 4.4 Dr. Jack Goodrich, Chamber of Commerce, cited the success of last <br /> year's San Leandro Leadership Program having graduated 16 <br /> participants. He encouraged the City's continued financial support <br /> and noted that 80% of the graduates have become more involved in the <br /> community as a result of the program. <br /> 4.5 Bob Biasotti, Leadership Program graduate, said he was proud to be a <br /> part of the program and that he had attained greater insights into <br /> the community as a result. He said the program is proactive and <br /> develops visions and goals based on working with the people involved. <br /> Developing citizens is important to the future of the community. <br /> 4.6 Barbara Tierney, 3965 Mission Way, served on the Steering Committee <br /> last year. She cited Leadership participants' involvement with <br /> several other community groups, such as homeowners' associations and <br /> service groups. She encouraged the City Council's continued support <br /> of the program. <br /> 4.7 Bill Jardin noted that the program would have been great when he <br /> served on the City Council. He said it helps to develop future <br /> citizens who can serve on commissions and be involved in the <br /> community. The participants are highly trained, ready to be <br /> involved, and well prepared. He encouraged the City Council's <br /> support. <br /> 4.8 Dr. Mark Kolpin said he supports the Leadership Program. He noted <br /> that the program is a large and important commitment by a business. <br /> He said it is important to develop partnerships between the business <br /> community and the City. <br /> 4.9 Paul Cayere, 773 Juana, thanked the City Council for last year's <br /> support of the Leadership Program and encouraged the Council to <br /> continue support for the next year. <br /> 4.10 Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne Drive, spoke on several Agenda items. <br /> He said he agrees with the Leadership Program concept but does not <br /> believe the City should support it. He noted it was difficult to <br /> participate with the new Agenda format. He cited a 1934 gunfire <br /> incident in San Francisco. <br /> The City Attorney announced the August 19, 1996, Closed Session would be <br /> adjourned to continue on Tuesday, August 20, 1996, at 7:30 p.m. <br /> 4.11 Assemblyman Tom Bates, 2225 Ward Street, Berkeley, is the Founding <br /> Chair of the Corridor Project. He noted that the ban on Saturday <br /> Night Specials is occurring throughout the region. He said he was <br /> pleased that it would be discussed during the evening and wished them <br /> well in their discussions. <br />
