Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 8 - <br /> Redevelopment Agency Meeting - November 4, 1996 <br /> The following Motion was then introduced: <br /> 3.1.2 Minute Order No. 96 -50, Matter of Appeal by Mulford Gardens' <br /> Improvement Association of the Board of Zoning Adjustments' <br /> Approval of CU- 96 -16; Conditional Use; for a Conference Center <br /> Facility with Overnight Accommodations, Including 55,332 Sq. <br /> Ft. for Conference Space, a 3,500- Sq. -Ft. Restaurant, and 200 <br /> Rooms; 30 San Leandro Marina; Assessor's Parcel No. 79A- 475 -9- <br /> 3; Network Conference Company (Jefferey Davenport); CR <br /> Commercial Recreation District. (1098) <br /> The City Council denied the Appeal by Mulford Gardens' <br /> Improvement Association of the Board of Zoning Adjustments' <br /> Approval of CU- 96 -16. <br /> M /S /C Lothrop and Polvorosa. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0 <br /> A five - minute break was announced at 8:30 p.m. <br /> The City Council reconvened its meeting at 8:35 p.m. <br /> 4. PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> Public Comments are limited to 5 minutes per person. The public is invited <br /> to make any comments related to Agenda items, or other items of public <br /> interest, at this time. <br /> 4.1 Rick Richards, 335 Peralta Avenue, thanked the Council for their <br /> support of the Friends of the Creek Wine and Cheese fundraising event <br /> for the mural. He said approximately 150 people attended and over <br /> $2,000 was raised. The artist, Leigh Keller Rice, had generously <br /> provided artwork for the raffle and door prizes. He said use of a <br /> pressure cleaner had been donated to clean the site. He said San <br /> Leandro High School art students are working on ideas for the mural. <br /> He said three events have resulted in raising over $6,000 for the <br /> mural project. <br /> 4.2 Stuart Alexander, 2463 West Avenue 133rd, announced he is the <br /> President of a new nonprofit organization, Friendship Club. He <br /> introduced Mother Wright who has helped the homeless with food for <br /> over 17 years. He said he has donated his building on Washington <br /> Avenue to Mother Wright for her work. He said she has committed her <br /> life to helping other people. He said he would like to develop a <br /> job -based program to give work to the homeless. He said he is in the <br /> process of developing a large fundraiser to benefit Mother Wright's <br /> organization; he is asking for input for ideas to benefit her work. <br />
