Strategic Plan — FY 2000 -FY 2004 <br /> City of San Leandro <br /> Page 34 of 35 <br /> It is anticipated that CDBG and the City's Community Assistance funds will continue to support <br /> nonprofit agencies that provide job assistance and related services to low- income members of the <br /> community. In recent years, several nonprofit agencies such as Davis Street Community Center, <br /> Community Resources for Independent Living(CRIL). Shelter Against Violent Environments (SAVE), <br /> and the San Leandro Shelter for Women and Children have provided job support and related services to <br /> families, disabled persons, and women with children who are homeless and /or in transition. <br /> The City of San Leandro has attracted several commercial office and retail developments, including a <br /> new WalMart which created employment opportunities for residents. The CDBG staff will continue to <br /> work closely with the City's Economic Development staff to develop eligible programs and promote <br /> increased economic development and community job retention. <br /> It is anticipated that the City will continue to fund activities such as a job- based, on -site literacy program <br /> in coordination with several San Leandro based businesses. The City will continue to encourage new <br /> agencies and programs providing job assistance and related services to apply for funds. <br /> INSTITUTIONAL STRUCTURE <br /> CDBG and HOME activities are located in the Office of Economic and Redevelopment which is part of <br /> the City Managers Office. In an effort to leverage the use of funds, the CDBG and HOME staff <br /> collaborates with all City departments, including Redevelopment, Economic Development, Engineering, <br /> Planning and Community Services. In addition, the staff also works closely with service and housing <br /> agencies to accomplish local community development objectives. <br /> PUBLIC HOUSING RESIDENT INITIATIVES <br /> There is no public housing in the City of San Leandro. <br /> PART VI. COORDINATION EFFORTS <br /> The City of San Leandro will continue to coordinate CDBG, HOME, Redevelopment and Community <br /> Assistance funds to provide housing programs, public service assistance, capital improvement <br /> opportunities and economic development revitalization programs to the community during the next five <br /> years. <br /> Housing <br /> Housing related activities will be coordinated between various City divisions, including Redevelopment, <br /> Planning and CDBG. The City will also coordinate with Alameda County, Alameda County HOME <br /> Constorium and non -profit agencies to address housing needs. <br />
