Action Plan - FY2000
City of San Leandro
Page 40
Housing
Housing related activities will be coordinated between various City divisions, including
Redevelopment, Planning and CDBG. The City will also coordinate with Alameda County,
Alameda County HOME Consortium and non - profit agencies to address housing needs.
It is anticipated that the City and Redevelopment Agency will continue to contract with Alameda
County to provide housing rehabilitation services. The City will also work with the County to
administer HOME funds for affordable housing rehabilitation or new construction projects. The
City will continue to contract for Fair Housing, tenant/landlord and Rental Assistance Program
services. The Redevelopment Agency and CDBG staff will continue to work closely with local
nonprofit shelter agencies to identify affordable and transitional housing needs.
Public Services /Capital Improvement Projects
Public Services will be supported by both the CDBG and the City's Community Assistance funds
(general funds); efforts will continue to include the Human Resources Commission and nonprofit
agency directors /members to further improve and evaluate the needs assessment and funding
process. CDBG funds are expected to be made available for nonprofit and City - initiated capital
improvement projects. Nonprofit improvements will be coordinated within the City's
development Services, Engineering and Transportation Departments, and the City Council.
Business Revitalization
Revitalization efforts will continue through the City's Economic Development Coordinator and
directed by the City Council. Staff works closely with the Chamber of Commerce, Downtown
Business Association, the East Bay Small Business Development Center, surrounding
communities, and various economic development organizations to best determine the City's future
needs. Two programs underway, the Neighborhood Shopping Center Revitalization Program and
the MacArthur Boulevard Facade Renovation Program, will further enhance the City's business
revitalization efforts.
PUBLIC HOUSING IMPROVEMENTS AND RESIDENT INITIATIVES
There are no public housing units located within the City of San Leandro.
