COMMISSION PROFILE <br /> I Title of Commission: SENIOR ADVISORY COMMISSION <br /> Description of Board Duties: <br /> The Commission shall: <br /> a. advise the City Council on matters relating to the status and condition of <br /> senior citizens within the City, <br /> b. assess and report to the Council the social, health and other needs of senior <br /> citizens; <br /> c. recommend to the Council methods of meeting such needs; and <br /> d. assist the Council in marshaling the resources necessary to accomplish the <br /> foregoing. <br /> In discharge of this responsibility, the Commission shall: <br /> a. assess the social, economic, education, cultural, emotional and other needs <br /> of senior citizens within the City and create citizen awareness of those <br /> needs; <br /> b. conduct informational hearings on matters affecting senior citizens in the <br /> community; <br /> • c. monitor legislative developments concerning senior citizens, and inform <br /> the City Council, seniors, and the public of such developments; <br /> d. encourage better coordination in the delivery of services to senior citizens, <br /> seek to improve the quality of such services, and foster increased <br /> communication between providers of such services within the community <br /> and the residents of the City, through voluntary public and private <br /> initiatives; <br /> e. assess paratransit and other transportation needs of the community's <br /> senior citizens, and make recommendations to enhance transportation <br /> services for senior citizens; <br /> f. review the City Manager's budget recommendations as they affect <br /> programs concerning senior citizens, as part of the City's annual budget <br /> process; <br /> XVI -15 <br />
