He also agreed that joint use <br /> projects can be successful. <br /> 4. Discussion Regarding School Safety <br /> City Manager Hollister introduced Sgt. Sanchez and Officer Trujillo of the San Leandro <br /> Police Department (SLPD) who were present to hear from the District regarding safety at <br /> District schools. Superintendent Cathey conveyed her thanks to the SLPD for all the great <br /> work they do. She stated that campus security is undergoing training for three days this <br /> month. She added that the District is currently experiencing: 1) changes due to two <br /> campuses at the high school, 2) traffic issues, 3) truancy and people being on campus who <br /> should not be there, 4) dealing with intervention and prevention, and 5) mitigation of <br /> truancy ahead of it occurring. Board President Mack -Rose commented that general staff at <br /> the high school could use help with de- escalation of problem situations. She suggested <br /> input by SLPD on campus safety would help and stated that there may be many <br /> opportunities to work together regarding safety. City Manager Hollister stated that it is <br /> very important that site administrative staff is understanding of and in agreement with <br /> police efforts. A discussion ensued on the benefits of a Security Resource Officer (SRO) <br /> on campus. All agreed that school safety be discussed in more detail at a future joint <br /> City/District meeting. <br /> 5. Discussion Regarding 2011 City and SLUSD Liaison Committee Meeting Days and <br /> Times <br /> Mayor Cassidy stated that he would prefer monthly meetings. A discussion ensued on the <br /> possibility of monthly meetings and it was decided there would be a February meeting and <br /> then later determine the frequency of meetings. <br /> 6. Discussion Regarding City Council and School Board Joint Work Session <br /> It was agreed that the City Council /School Board Joint Work Session will take place in <br /> April. <br /> 7. Public Comments <br /> Kurt Weidmann, of Harris and Associates, asked about signaling at the corner of Bancroft <br /> Avenue and 136 Avenue. <br /> Lou Filipovich commented on the City Council /School Board Joint Work Session; that <br /> districts are dependent on tax payers' revenue. He also commented on the Fred Korematsu <br /> Day. <br /> Craig Williams commented on the types of jobs created within the City and that he would <br /> like to see a better relationship between the schools and jobs. <br />
