• • <br /> TITLE VII MAPS, BUILDINGS, AND SUBDIVISIONS <br /> Chapter 14 Signs <br /> (27) Sian: <br /> (a) A writing, pictorial representation, symbol, <br /> registered trademark, flag, banner, or pennant, or <br /> other device or figure of similar character used to <br /> identify, announce, direct attention, advertise or - <br /> communicate, installed on or outside a building or <br /> on an exterior window of a building; <br /> (b) Structural supports for any of the foregoing. <br /> (Ordinance No. 72 -34, 6/12/72) <br /> (28) Sign Area: The sum of the face areas for all signs <br /> located on the same property. <br /> (29) Sign Display Structure: A stationary structure for <br /> display of temporary signs and nameplates. <br /> (30) Special Event: A civic and non - commercial health, <br /> safety and welfare campaign, a public event of general <br /> community interest, or a business promotional activity. <br /> (Ordinance No. 72 -34, 6/12/72) <br /> (31) Temporary Sign: A sign made of pacer, lightweight <br /> plastic or metal, cardboard, cloth, canvas or other <br /> lightweight material. <br /> (32) Under - Canopy Sian: A sign installed under a canopy, <br /> awning or marquee. <br /> (33) Wall Sian: A sign applied or mounted on the wall or <br /> vertical surface of a building or structure, the display <br /> surface of which is generally parallel to and within <br /> twelve (12) inches of the supporting wall or surface. <br /> (3 Wind Sign: Flags, banners, .pennants, or other similar <br /> devices which consist of any material made in any shape, <br /> which are fastened together in such manner as to move by <br /> wind pressure. <br /> (35) Window Sign: A sign installed on an exterior window of <br /> a building. <br /> (36) Zoning Ordinance: The Zoning Ordinance of the City of <br /> San Leandro.
