w City of San Leandro
" Meeting Date: October 17, 2011
Staff Report
File Number: 11 -180 Agenda Section: CONSENT CALENDAR
Agenda Number: 8.H.
TO: City Council
FROM: Lianne Marshall
Interim City Manager /Executive Director
BY: Uchenna Udemezue
Engineering & Transportation Director
FINANCE REVIEW: James O'Leary, Interim Finance Director
TITLE: Staff Report for Resolution Accepting the Work for the Annual Sidewalk
Program 2010 -11, Project No. 10- 144 -36 -006
RECOMMENDATION
This project removed and replaced damaged concrete sidewalk, driveway approaches,
curbs, curb ramps and gutters throughout the City.
Staff recommends acceptance of the work, filing of the Notice of Completion, and upon
completion to the satisfaction of the City Engineer of the one -year Maintenance Period,
hereby authorizes the City Manager to release the Maintenance Bond for the subject project.
BACKGROUND
Property owners are required by both the State Highway Code and San Leandro Municipal
Code to maintain the sidewalks along their frontage. The City operates a sidewalk repair
program, described in Title 8 of the San Leandro Administrative Code, which provides for the
repair of sidewalk damage.
Minor defects were ground or patched at no charge to adjacent property owners. Larger
defects involved removal and replacement of the concrete, however, adjacent property
owners must reimburse the City for the full construction cost unless a City street tree is the
cause of damage. Property owners and the City split equally the construction cost for
damage caused by a City street tree.
In addition to the repair of sidewalk, this project included the installation of some sidewalk
curb ramps to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
