TO: City Council FROM: Chris Zapata City <br />Manager BY: Lianne Marshall Assistant City Manager FINANCE REVIEW: Not Applicable TITLE: ADOPT: Resolution Supporting San Leandro Unified School District Measure L for the November 2012 <br />Election (endorses the ballot measure to levy a tax on parcels within the District for 5 years) WHEREAS, the San Leandro Unified School District has placed Measure L, a parcel tax to <br />support public schools, on the November 2012 ballot; and WHEREAS, Measure L will help to minimize further budget cuts resulting from reductions in state funding for local schools; and <br />WHEREAS, Measure L will protect and maintain core academic math, science, and reading programs; and WHEREAS, Measure L will maintain classroom computers and instructional technology, <br />and protect and maintain small class sizes; and WHEREAS, Measure L will protect and maintain art and music programs, and physical education and athletic programs; and WHEREAS, Measure <br />L goals include protecting student safety, keeping school libraries open, and attracting and maintaining high-quality teachers and staff including counselors; and WHEREAS, the goals <br />achieved by Measure L will benefit San Leandro students, improve the quality of education in schools, and enhance safety for students and the community as a whole. NOW, THEREFORE, the <br />City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE to support the San Leandro Unified School District Measure L for the November 2012 election.
