• <br /> SECTION 10. VACATIONS (Contd.) <br /> H. EMERGENCY VACATION LEAVE. Leave of absence with pay because of personal <br /> emergency of a person in the Department service may be granted by the Chief for not <br /> more than 2 shifts during a calendar year to deal with the personal emergency. Time <br /> taken for leave of absence under the provisions of this subsection shall be deducted <br /> from the vacation allowance of such person. Procedures for Emergency Vacation <br /> Leave are found in the Department's Official Action Guidelines. <br /> • <br /> • SECTION 11. SICK LEAVE <br /> A. SICK LEAVE DEFINED. As used in this section, "sick leave" means leaves of <br /> absence of an employee because of any of the following: <br /> 1. Illness or injtu-y other than an industrial illness or injury which renders <br /> him/her incapable of performing his/her work or duties for the Department; <br /> 2. Exposure to contagious disease; and <br /> 3. Emergency medical or dental appointments of the employee. <br /> B. SELF - INFLICTED INJURY EXCLUDED. In no case shall an absence due to <br /> purposefully self- inflicted incapacity or injury be deemed a basis for granting sick <br /> leave with pay under the provisions of this section. <br /> C. SICK LEAVE ACCRUAL. All employees shall accrue sick leave at the rate of 7 -1/2 <br /> shifts per year (15 hrs /month), seventy -five (75) shifts maximum accrual; or 10.7 hours <br /> per month if working 40 hours per week. <br /> D. CASH PAYMENT ON RETIREMENT. Upon retirement from Department service <br /> under the applicable retirement plan or upon death while in active service, an <br /> employee shall be entitled to a lump sum payment calculated at the hourly rate in <br /> effect on the last day of Department service for each classification as set forth in <br /> Appendix A, times 20% of the employee's unused accrued sick leave, which accrual <br /> shall not exceed 1500 hours in the case of employees who work 56 -hour weeks or 1,286 <br /> how-s in the case of employees who work 40 -hour Weeks. <br /> E. MEDICAL REPORT. The Chief, as a condition of granting sick leave with pay, may <br /> require acceptable medical evidence of sickness or injury after two consecutive shifts <br /> absence or in cases in which the Chief has reason to believe that an employee has <br /> abused his/her sick leave piivilege to the Department. This evidence may include a <br /> statement of diagnosis and treatment from a licensed physician or a medical clearance <br /> to return to work. <br /> F. EMERGENCY LEAVE: SICKNESS IN U'vIMEDLATE FAMILY. Leave of absence <br /> with pay because of sickness or injury in the immediate family of a person in the <br /> Department service may be granted by the Chief during the time reasonably necessary <br /> to arrange for care of the sick person by others, but not to exceed the amount of time <br /> tivhich the person woulu be authorized for sick leave in Section C. above. Time taken <br /> for leave of absence under the provisions of this subsection shall be deducted from the <br /> sick leave allowance of such person. For the purposes of this subsection, "immediate <br /> family" means mother. stepmother, father, stepfather, husband, child, or any other - <br /> - 1"76 <br /> FIRE - 70 <br />
