SICK LEAVE (Contd.) <br /> person sharing the relationship of in loco parentis; and, when living in the household <br /> of the employee, a brother, sister, brother -in -law, sister -in -law, mother -in -law, <br /> father -in -law, and grandparents. <br /> G. CONVERSION OF SICK LEAVE TO VACATION. When an employee's sick leave <br /> balance reaches the maximum accumulation of 1800 hours for employees who work <br /> 24 -hour shifts and 1,286 hours for employees who work 8 -hour shifts, 5 shifts or days <br /> • <br /> shall be deducted from said sick leave balance and shall be converted to 1 shift or day <br /> of vacation. Said vacation shall be added to vacation balances accumulated pursuant <br /> to Section 10. Vacation. • <br /> H. CATASTROPHIC SICK LEAVE PROGRAM. An employee may be eligible to <br /> receive donations of paid sick leave to be included in the employee's sick leave balance <br /> if s/he has suffered a catastrophic illness or injury which prevents the employee from <br /> being able to work. Catastrophic illness or injury is defined as a critical medical <br /> condition considered to be terminal, or a long -term major physical impairment or <br /> disability. <br /> Eligibilitv:. <br /> 1. The non - probationary recipient employee, recipient employee's family, or other <br /> person designated in writing by the recipient employee must submit a request <br /> to the Alameda County Personnel/Labor Relations Department. <br /> 2. The recipient employee is not eligible so long as s/he has paid leaves available; <br /> however, the request may be initiated prior to the anticipated date leave <br /> balances will he exhausted. <br /> 3. A medical verification including diagnosis and prognosis must be provided by <br /> the recipient employee. <br /> 4. A recipient employee is eligible to receive 180 eight -hour working days or 84 <br /> twenty -four hour shifts of donated time per employment. <br /> 5. Donations shall be made in full-clay increments of 8 hours or full -shift <br /> • increments of 24 hours, and are irrevocable. The maximum that may be • <br /> donated in a calendar year is two donor employee's day's/shifts per recipient. <br /> 6. The donor employee may donate vacation or compensatory time which shall be <br /> converted to recipient employee's sick leave balance and all sick leave <br /> provisions will apply. Time donated in any pay period may be used in the <br /> following pay periods. No retroactive donations will be permitted. <br /> 7. The donor's hourly value %%i11 be converted to the recipient's hourly value and <br /> then added to recipients sick leave balance on a dollar- for - dollar basis. <br /> 8. Both the donor and the recipient must be employed by the Alameda County <br /> Fire Department. <br /> • <br /> - 177 <br /> FIRE - 11 • <br />
