SAN LEANDRO ADMINISTRATIVE CODE TITLE 2 CITY MANAGER <br /> Chapter 5 Americans with Disabilities Act/Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of <br /> 1973 <br /> ARTICLE 1 COORDINATORS <br /> §2.5.100: SECTION 504 COORDINATOR AND ADA COORDINATOR. <br /> The City of San Leandro Section 504 Coordinator shall be the Housing Specialist I in the Commu- <br /> nity Development Department, and the Americans with Disabilities Act Coordinator will be the <br /> Community Relations Representative in the City Manager's Office. <br /> The 504 Coordinator and ADA Coordinator shall be responsible for coordinating the efforts of the <br /> City of San Leandro to comply with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of <br /> the Americans with Disabilities Act, respectively as they pertain to services, programs, events, ac- <br /> tivities, facilities and public meetings. The respective coordinator shall investigate complaints that <br /> the City or the City's subrecipients of Federal funding have violated statutes or regulations under <br /> the Acts, or other state or federal laws relating to persons with disabilities. <br /> Issues arising in the course of employment with or employment application to the City of San <br /> Leandro are covered by Administrative Procedure 41230 Reasonable Accommodation Process, and <br /> are not subject to the provisions of this Administrative Code Chapter. <br /> ARTICLE 2 REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION POLICY FOR CITY SERVICES, <br /> PROGRAMS, FACILITIES,AND EVENTS <br /> §2.5.200: REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION POLICY. <br /> It is the policy of the City of San Leandro to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act <br /> (ADA), the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of <br /> 1973, and the comprehensive civil rights laws that prohibit discrimination against persons with dis- <br /> abilities. Under the ADA and FEHA, persons with disabilities must have equal access to all City <br /> services, programs, events, facilities and public meetings that are available to individuals without <br /> disabilities through a reasonable accommodation. <br /> (a) Services, Programs, Events, Activities, Facilities and Public Meetings. In all of its ser- <br /> vices, programs, events, activities, facilities and public meetings, the City of San Leandro <br /> will strive to eliminate any barriers that prohibit persons with disabilities from participating <br /> in those services, programs, events or activities, or from having full access to facilities. This <br /> will not preclude the City, however, from adopting legitimate safety requirements necessary <br /> for safe operation based on identified risks. If a service, program, event or activity is not <br /> fully accessible, the City will, to the best of its ability, relocate said service, program, event <br /> or activity to an accessible facility, or provide equal services at alternate accessible sites. A <br /> request for special accommodation for a service, program, event or activity must be made to <br /> the ADA Coordinator by the individual needing the accommodation or his/her representa- <br /> tive with at least two (2) weeks advance notice of the service, program, event or activity. <br /> (b) Public Meetings. <br /> Department Responsible for Revision: City Manager Chapter 2.5 <br /> 09/20/2010 Page 1 <br />
