NEW BUSINESS (continued)
D. Approval of Work Session Items Requiring Action (Continued) .
- Matter of Appointing Members to the Economic Development Advisory
Committee.
Wandzia Grycz-Hernandez, Assistant City Manager, said 15 nominees
for the Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC) have been
recommended by the ad hoc committee for approval by the full City
Council . As part of the process, the committee incorporated many of
the names from those given to them by the City Council .
She reviewed the proposed purpose and responsibility of the EDAC and
said the it would be involved in major policy issues, not day-to-day
economic development activities, and would meet every other month.
She said EDAC membership is proposed to consist of 10 categories and
five at-large positions, and the report recommended a process for
filing vacancies.
Council Member Galvan said the ad hoc committee worked long and hard
to try to incorporate everyone's concerns.
Council Member Loeffler said they tried to get a broad group with
more at-large seats and to respond to Council 's concerns.
The City Council made the following suggestions: the San Leandro
Homeowners' Association should name its own representative; the
geographic spread of the members should be increased to cover all
areas of the City; environmental should be covered by Friends of San
Leandro Creek rather than the Sierra Club, since the Friends meet in
town; there is no specific coverage for the Marina area; the medical
and auto sales areas should have representation.
