Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - August 7, 1995 Page - 12 - <br /> NEW BUSINESS (continued) <br /> In response to questions, staff indicated the nominees had been <br /> contacted and indicated they would be willing to serve. The Council <br /> also questioned the mechanics of the committee and whether it would <br /> utilize subcommittees. In response to Council questions, Mayor <br /> Corbett said the Council had decided some time ago that no Council <br /> Members would serve on the EDAC. <br /> The Council directed that the ad hoc committee meet again and <br /> consider the concerns expressed; consider expanding the EDAC, <br /> possibly to 17 members; and consider adding more categories. <br /> 10. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> A. Council Member Galvan referred to comments by Mr. Kitzmann and said the <br /> City Council has had problems, but they have been working through them <br /> and things have improved. He said they have disagreements from time to <br /> time on issues, but he feels they have come together on big issues and <br /> have done important things working with staff, such as Costco, the <br /> joint Redevelopment Project, etc. He said, most of the time the City <br /> Council has worked well together and camaraderie has been built. <br /> Council Member Galvan noted the Council would be losing three members <br /> because Howard Kerr and Kent Myers are not seeking re-election and <br /> Linda Perry cannot run for another term. He said he will miss them and <br /> noted the City Council will look completely different in seven or eight <br /> months. <br /> B. Council Member Perry commended all those who participated in National <br /> Night Out. She said she attended 16 of the 21 activities throughout <br /> the city. <br /> Council Member Perry discussed the status of HR 1555, the <br /> Telecommunications Bill , and the Stupak amendment, which preserves <br /> local right of way and compensation language. <br /> C. Council Member Polvorosa said neighborhoods that don't participate in <br /> National Night Out are missing something. He said it brings neighbors <br /> closer together. <br /> D. Vice Mayor Kerr said he held a Night Out activity at his house and over <br /> 50 people attended. He said Gary Kruger was the speaker, and it was <br /> great to get the neighborhood people out and to get feedback. <br /> Vice Mayor Kerr said the City Council 's contribution of $205 to the <br /> Bobby Sox team was outstanding and said the Council Members had also <br /> given an additional $200. He wished the team the best. <br /> Vice Mayor Kerr said the Pony League Zone Tournament was held last week <br /> at the San Leandro Ball Park and was an excellent tournament. <br />
