Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - February 1, 1993 Page - 14 -
PUBLIC HEARINGS (continued)
get rid of them. He said he doesn't understand why Mr. Federighi wants
his zoning changed. He said Associated Aerospace doesn't care if their
zoning is changed or not. He said the only problem he has with them is
that they do park in residents' driveways. Mr. Norry said he has
talked to Mr. Federighi and Mr. Pethan and has received letters saying
he is picking on their tenants. He said there are problems with trucks
parking in Associated Aerospace and taking over the whole area. He
said Mr. Federighi and Mr. Pethan said they could have 75 employees and
trucks, but Mayor Karp told them they couldn't. Mr. Norry said Best
had a chance to move to a legal location because the City studied
several locations, but they felt, with their political power, they .
could steamroller the Homeowners Association. He said Underground
Construction Company was not a contracting firm with trucks; all they
had on the site was an office building. Mr. Norry said Mayor Karp had
stated the park district is not going to use Neptune Drive as a main
entrance, but that's not what was reported to him a few days ago. He
said East Bay Regional Parks District is against re-zoning of the area.
He said he talked to Dan Gray of Reynolds and Brown who said they are
also against re-zoning. He said, under I-2, the I-P Conditions would
become void, then there would be no protection at all for the
neighborhood, and there could be another trucking company across the
street. He said at one time he counted 21 tractors and trailers on the
Best property, even though they say they have only nine. He said Ruan
• is not gone; they still service trucks and still service other people's
trucks and trailers. Mr. Norry said he never said Williams was not a
truck route. He said that Mr. Kerry's trucks were illegal only because
of the Conditions to which Mr. Kerry had agreed, not because of the
street. He said some of the Conditions on Mr. Federighi may be wrong,
but it does say a minimum of one parking space per employee, and there
are usually four or five cars parked on the street. He said they were
supposed to put up a sign saying trucks must drive through years ago,
but the sign has never been installed. Mr. Norry said Paradiso was
steamrollered by Kerry and Texeira, but he did a terrific job. Mr.
Norry said he has been fighting this for four years. He said City
staff, the Board and Planning Commission have been saying Best, Ruan,
and Kerry are all illegal , but the City Council can't see that. He
said the City Council should have a little more protection of the
quality of life in the neighborhoods.
Council Member Kerr asked if the problems with parking in driveways and
alongside houses is still going on. Mr. Norry said it is.
Council Member Kerr asked if the Coke trucks do travel at only 10 miles
per hour. Mr. Norry said they travel at 35-40 miles per hour. He said
Mr. Loeffler, the school principal , was supposed to be here tonight and
had called Mr. Norry and expressed concern that Coke trucks have been
seen on Aurora Drive near the school , although Aurora is posted for no
trucks. Mr. Norry said he has seen at least two trucks, but Mr.
Loeffler said he has seen trucks there several times. Mr. Norry said
there will be twice as many problems if the new zoning is approved.
