Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - February 1, 1993 Page - 16 -
PUBLIC HEARINGS (continued)
On Motion by Council Member Polvorosa, seconded by Council Member Perry
and carried unanimously, the Public Hearings on A-92-02 and A-92-07
were closed.
Council Member Corbett asked if there were any other examples of
industrial uses abutting residential areas. Mr. Weisbrod noted several
such areas, including Doolittle Drive north of Fairway, which has
condominiums across from an I-P zone, some of which used to be I-2; the
Bonaire area; the City Corporation Yard adjacent to Fremont Avenue and
the Floresta Gardens area.
Mayor Karp asked, if these properties were to be re-zoned, could they
be subject to the I-G_ zoning at the time of approval of the Zoning
Code.
Steve Meyers recommended that the re-zoning not be operative until the
Zoning Maps have been established and approved by the City Council . He
said that would make the zoning I-G. He said the effect would be to
grant the Appeal but suspend the zoning until such time as the new
Zoning Maps are approved. He said this would cover the period of time
from the present until the new Zoning Maps are approved. He said,
otherwise, if the zoning approval were granted immediately, during that
time the properties would only be required to meet the I-2
requirements. He said to avoid that situation the Appeal could be
granted but the zoning would not be operative until such time as the
Maps are adopted.
In response to a request from the City Council , Mr. Meyers read the I-G
portion of the new Zoning Code and the many uses that are permitted.
He said I-G also requires Conditional Uses or Site Development approval
for some uses.
Mr. Meyers said the other I designations, such as I-N, are more
restrictive than I-G. He said I-G is the least restrictive.
Council Member Corbett asked how the I-P zoning compared to I-2 and to
I-G and whether any other members of the City Council would be
interested in getting a written report on this.
Council Member Faria said Mr. Kerry would be required to obtain a
Conditional Use for a truck terminal which would require the same type
of process and the same arguments. He said he sees two issues. He
said there is no sense to hold off and do the I-G on Mr. Federighi 's
property only. He said he thinks I-2 is needed on the Kerry property
to make it work; and, if the Kerry property is re-zoned to I-G, it will
require a Conditional Use Permit.
•
